Trip Around the Virtual World -Will Semantics Improve Web?

Is there a new Internet in the making? Google is already integrating Latent Semantic Indexing into its algorithm and has not yet stated in what way it hopes to improve current search engine results by this addition. Of course, the internet has become over run with sites and pages developed by those who are intent on circumventing the SERPs. But how will semantics improve the current results and will it create a sort of new version of the Internet?

Many are hoping it will become reality. As this blog demonstrates while Tripping around the Virtual World, it is difficult to locate quality information so we have reported on very few digital souvenirs. With the majority of sites presenting very similar information which is neither useful nor worthy of indexing.

Perhaps, in an effort to escape the accumulation of misinformation and sexual content currently littering the Super Information Highway, the Google Machine, Universities and even Government are planning to systemically branch out with at least one of the trio using semantics to do it.

According to Notations source-, the actual users of the internet are government and universities, which outweigh the businesses by more than a 3:1 ration. If this is accurate, then, there will theoretically be a new version of the Internet, which will evolve either as a tier systematic offspring or as an entirely new version.

Time will tell and it does seem a favorable move and realistically the only way to save the fundamental purpose of the World Wide Web that has become overrun with crap and useless content. All in favor raise your hand…

Pharmaceutical Exclusivity Reduced

The New England Journal of Medicine reports pharmaceutical exclusivity has substantially declined market wise from 10.2 years to the current 1.2 years.
In the 1970s pharmaceutical companies enjoyed a ten year solo windfall but recently the Food and Drug Administration has picked up the pace in approvals which leaves manufacturers realizing heavy competition in the market. Why pricing has not followed the downward trend remains a mystery in the United States of America.
Canada and other countries citizens have realized increasing savings due to the rise in suppliers and the decline in demand must certainly parallel the inflating supply but as yet Americans continue to pay more for prescription drugs.

This fact reported in Longtail.com and NEJM.

The Right to Make the Wrong Choice part 2

Continued from Part 1:
In both the virtual world and the world where humans actually interact without the aid of computers and telecommunication equipment, human logic should remain the fuel which drives the vehicle despite and devoid of political influences. The fundamental purpose of our online environment must remain free from governmental intrusion and an unfriendly banking industry. This must be supported by those of us in the virtual world despite the deprecating attempts of the leader of the free world and the American government. America can not realistically police the Nations and countries of this planet while denying its own citizens the opportunity to make personal choices.
The basis of the Blogosphere is no different than other segments and niche markets of the World Wide Web, it shall remain driven by human-power and human-powered solutions. This is especially true in respect to online advertising and marketing.
Now that search engines have begun picking up and returning in SERPs various blogs, this type of content site will continue to move forward. Many blog writers will reap the rewards which attach to readership and developing a fan base. Many, of course, will not. What may or may not separate a good blog from an "unread" blog is the value of the content and the topical attraction of the content for mainstream internet users. Realistically, internet users are not "mere scanners" of headlines and will in fact read articles and information when it is worthwhile and holds interest to the visitor. In turn a website visit may transform into an internet reader and possibly even a devoted fan of a certain blog and blog writer. This will not happen accidently, however. The writer must develop content accordingly and intentionally to fit whatever audience he or she desires to attract. This isn't an easy task and even fewer will ever realize success.

What a blog writer must realize aside from quality writing there must be a relevant topic which has mass appeal in order to accomplish a wide reach on the internet. Simply publishing content will not accomplish the task. For this reason, it is important to note the need for theme in relation to subject or topic.

Currently, you are reading this article on a blog which has yet to establish itself in respect to a theme or subject. Instead, as the primary blog writer, I am simply using my blog space to survey creative endeavors of others along the super information highway. It is a virtual trip around the World Wide Web.

How did I begin this venture in creative content production? I was an avid fan of Texas Hold'em Poker. Now that members from the United States are no longer allowed the freedom of choice, I realized ample quantities of free time to explore the internet. Discovering various applications, web tools, and other fun human creations, I felt the need to document my digital souvenirs and created this blog.

Slowly, I am beginning to recognize similar threads in this virtual world which parallel those in the physical world and am commenting on my finds. As you are likely very much aware, the internet offers many curious opportunities for humans.
In addition, the same influences from our material world also have tremendous influence in the virtual world and it is this influence which is responsible for further development of my blog.

While I detest the intrusion of politics in the virtual world, I have discovered the growing need for law enforcement and the legal system in settling and preventing harms to others online. However, I would have preferred this virtual world to remain true to its origin of free sharing of information, I realize it is an impossibility due to one main factor. The humans and human-powered influences prevent simple interactions remaining problem free. Humans will continue to drive the internet as the single most important influence and because of this there will be mirrored issues between the physical elements in the digital age. It is not really possible to avoid this reality and just as Karl Marx suggested, the friction is directly related to humans and their inability to carry out problem free interaction regardless of where and when we interact.

Inexpensive Hosting Solutions

The internet was designed upon the forward thinking of free information exchange as its foundation. Unfortunately, however, much has changed since the inception of the World Wide Web and many sites now charge for various services rendered. Luckily, there are a number of work arounds to these fees and this post will explain a couple of them.
Bravenet, Blogger, and Squidoo are three companies which offer free web space to their members. That's right you can avoid paying monthly hosting fees at sites such as GoDaddy and HostGator by using these free sites. In addition, these sites provide free website building software for you to use in the effort. This makes much more sense than paying $9.95 per month to host a website. This amounts to a yearly savings of almost $120(USD).
